Bobby Hull

About Bobby Hull

The legendary Bobby Hull is considered one of the greatest hockey players of all time, especially among left wingers. Nicknamed the “Golden Jet” due to his blonde hair and blinding speed, Hull turned pro in 1957 when he joined the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL. By his third season, he was the league leader in goal and point scoring, and he led Chicago to a Stanley Cup in 1961. Feared for his incredibly fast slapshot, Hull continued his stellar NHL career until 1972. Unhappy with his salary, he accepted an offer from the NHL’s upstart rival league, the World Hockey Assocation, and joined the Winnipeg Jets for ten-year, $1,000,000 contract. Hull finally retired during the WHA’s last season, 1979. He made a couple of short-lived comebacks after the merger of the WHA and the NHL, but he retired for good in 1981. Hull finished his career with countless achievements, including three Art Ross Trophies, a Hart Memorial Trophy, a Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, a Lester Patrick Trophy, three WHA MVP awards, and a Stanley Cup championship. In 1983, Bobby Hull was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame; in addition, he is an “honoured member” of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame.
